They had a shotgun wedding |
Norwegian playwright Henrik
Ibsen ("Hedda Gabler") died on
this day in 1906. Confined to bed in the
last years of his life, one day the great writer heard his nurse tell a visitor
that he was feeling better.
"On the contrary,"
he said, just before dying.
Also, on this day in 1934,
outlaw Bonnie Parker died. She and her
lover and partner in crime, Clyde Barrow, robbed banks and committed at least a
dozen murders. Her epitaph:
“As the
flowers are all made sweeter
by the sunshine and the dew,
So this old world is made brighter
by the lives
of folks like you.”
by the sunshine and the dew,
So this old world is made brighter
by the lives
of folks like you.”
