Here's looking at him

The painter Pablo Picasso died on this day in 1973. His last words:

"Drink to me."

A five-year-old autistic child in Dickson is apparently dead at the hands of his father.

The death of a child under any circumstances can prompt angry thoughts of an absent or a distracted God. It can, on the other hand, be an affirmation for the faithful, that God gathers unto Him the afflicted, ending their suffering here on Earth. And the joy that a child brings to those around it, seems amplified when its lifespan is brief.

A child is born, it blesses its family and friends (even if they don't know it), and then it is taken away. Is this God’s doing? Is it His way of driving home to us the preciousness of life? He sacrifices one, to show all? So the little ones who die are our martyrs? We may prefer to think so.
